Dominican Community Center Youth Group Program
Proposal: Form a youth group of about 10 youth (14-18 years old) in the Latinx community of Danbury with the intent to provide meaningful activities for these youth, develop their leadership skills, and provide a means by which they can give back to/improve their community. This youth group would meet on average twice monthly. Once for an educational/fun activity for the youth themselves and once with their mentor from the senior community to complete an activity together with their mentor.
Youth group goals:
Pair youth in the community with a senior (>65 years old) in the community to foster mentoring and friendship across generations.
Provide youth with leadership skills so that they are better prepared to become leaders in their communities.
Provide volunteer hours via the senior mentor program to buster college applications
Provide technical support for students hoping to apply to college after high school.
Teach youth about important topics related to health, school, employment, and becoming an adult.
Provide youth with a meaningful activity that helps them improve their community and be part of a positive community force.
